Pair of Neoclassical Fauteuils, France c.1810

Beech frames with the original paint surviving under a later overpaint, which we have left in place rather than strip. Reupholstered in undyed linen over the original webbing, which was sound. Sold as a pair; one chair has a repaired rear leg, disclosed and visible from beneath.

Provenance

From a château near Blois, sold with the contents in 2022. Present in the 1911 inventory as 'deux fauteuils, salon jaune'.
