One of a kind
Giltwood Baroque Mirror, Northern Italy c.1760

Carved and water-gilded softwood, the crest worked with a shell flanked by scrolling acanthus. Roughly a fifth of the gilding is later, applied in the nineteenth century over losses; it is distinguishable in daylight and we have not attempted to blend it. The mercury plate is original, with the cloudiness and edge loss that confirms it.
